Book Review: Night Circus- Erin Morgenstern

“Old stories have a habit of being told and retold and changed. Each subsequent storyteller puts his or her mark upon it. Whatever truth the story once had is buried in bias and embellishment. The reasons do not matter as much as the story itself”

Cover Summary:

The circus arrives without warning. No announcements precede it. It is simply there, when yesterday it was not. Within the black-and-white striped canvas tents is an utterly unique experience full of breathtaking amazements. It is called Le Cirque des Rêves, and it is only open at night.

But behind the scenes, a fierce competition is underway—a duel between two young magicians, Celia and Marco, who have been trained since childhood expressly for this purpose by their mercurial instructors. Unbeknownst to them, this is a game in which only one can be left standing, and the circus is but the stage for a remarkable battle of imagination and will. Despite themselves, however, Celia and Marco tumble headfirst into love—a deep, magical love that makes the lights flicker and the room grow warm whenever they so much as brush hands.

True love or not, the game must play out, and the fates of everyone involved, from the cast of extraordinary circus performers to the patrons, hang in the balance, suspended as precariously as the daring acrobats overhead.

Written in rich, seductive prose, this spell-casting novel is a feast for the senses and the heart. (Summary from GoodReads.com)

“I would have written you myself, if I could put down in words everything I want to say to you. A sea of ink would not be enough."

My Overall Opinion:

I would rate this novel a 4.5/5!

Very magical book, one where you are kinda confused about how it will all come together but when it does it is literally perfect!

The imagery and setting is beyond amazing and as reader I was almost envious of the characters who got to experience the circus and the magic for themselves.

The plot was pretty slow to begin so if you aren’t someone who can hold on till the good parts then you probably will struggle with this read. There are many point of views (15 actually) and the chapter switch between dates not following a chronological order. Which in my opinion adds to the magic of the story and makes the ending pretty epic, but you do have to pay pretty close attention to the details of the dates and POVs to not get confused.

The ending when it all comes together ties up all the events neatly which can be pretty unique in today's world of depressing endings, but in my opinion all characters get their perfect ending which make for an amazing romance (Marco can ruin my life lol), and for cute little happily ever after for the circus.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get lost in another world of magic and romance!
