Book Review: The Sun and Her Flowers - Rupi Kaur

this is the recipe of life

said my mother

as she held me in her arms as i wept

think of those flowers you plant

in the garden each year

they will teach you

that people too

must wilt

fall

root

rise

in order to bloom

About the Book:

The Sun and Her Flowers is the second book of poems written by Rupi Kaur. The story is split into five sections that correspond the process of personal growth to the life cycle of a flower.

Through the sections "wilting," "falling," "rooting," "rising," and "blooming" Rupi Kaur takes readers through a journey of loss and renewal, and shows a testament to the resilience of the human heart.

My Favorite Poems:

Top 5 favorite poems from this collection:

-What Love Looks Like, pg 30

-Not Your Hobby, pg 34

-The Underrated Heartache, pg 66

-Medicine, pg 228

-Timeless, pg 234

Overall Opinion:

I rate this book 4.5/5!

I enjoyed this book just as much as Kaur’s original book Milk and Honey. I highly recommend this collection of poems to anyone who is looking for motivation to continue on through life hardships.

The way Kaur split up the sections and themes to reflect that of a flower’s blooming process made the story flow in a way that told of a journey for the poet and the reader.
